Westside has added Bluefield to its 2012 football schedule, and the Renegades will take on county rival Wyoming East earlier in the season than ever before.
WHS, which went 9-2 and made the AA playoffs last season, takes on perennial power Bluefield on Oct. 12 at Clear Fork.
The only other gridiron meeting between the two took place in the 2003 state semifinals at Mitchell Stadium in Bluefield. The Beavers won that game.
Westside and East have traditionally played on the second Friday in October, but the game has been moved to the second week of the campaign, which falls on Aug. 31.
This year’s battle is at WHS.
Westside opens the season at Liberty Raleigh on Aug. 24 and then hosts East.
The Renegades travel to Man and Mingo Central the first two weeks of September before returning home on Sept. 21 against Independence.
That is the first of five straight home games for Westside. After Indy, they host Scott, Tug Valley, Bluefield and Mount View.
They finish the season at River View, which is expected to have its new field ready for play.
East, which went 5-5 last season, opens at home on Aug. 24 against Mingo Central.
After visiting Westside, the Warriors travel to Sherman. They return home to host Summers County on Sept. 14, visit Mount View on Sept. 21 and host River View on Sept. 28.
After a trip to PikeView and a week off, WEHS will host Shady Spring on on Oct. 19 and Independence on Oct. 26.
The season finishes at Liberty Raleigh on Nov. 2.
