The American Red Cross is in Wyoming County to provide disaster relief for victims of the last week’s storms.

The ARC will reportedly be serving hot meals in Pineville and will also be delivering meals.

Appalachian Power made major reductions in the number of people without electricty across the county in the past two days.

Thunderstorms which struck the area on Thursday afternoon and evening pushed the number of customers in the dark to nearly 8,000. Power was out in both Oceana and Pineville for several hours.

That number was reduced to less than 2,500 by Friday evening and was just over 1,100 on Saturday morning.
