Identification of remains found at Matheny this week could take a while, police say.
"It could take a few days or it could be months," said Wyoming County Sheriiff Randall Aliff of the skeletal remains discovered Monday evening.
Aliff said hunters found skeletal remains at the Stewart Cemetery, located not far from the Matheny Post Office.
"We got a call at 6:45 Monday night (about what had been found)," sated Aliff. "We went over there."
The state medical examiner in Charleston and the West Virginia State Police visited the area on Tuesday.
"We're trying to find different records (that could help with identification)," commented the sheriff. "That's really all we can say now."
