Wednesday was a special evening for Wyoming East girls hoop coach Angie Boninsegna.

Before her team’s regular season finale against River View, Principal Amanda Hylton presented her with the banner for the Class AA 2016 state championship.

It was the first title for a WEHS girsl team.

After the Lady Warriors beat the Raiders, 58-38, she learned it was her 100th career victory as the head coach at East.

“I didn’t know,” she admitted.

Boninsegna has guided the program at WEHS for seven years.

“I really feel blessed to have been associated with such wonderful young people during my coaching career at Wyoming East,” Boninsegna said.

“I also have been blessed with such great assistants and support staff who make my job a lot easier,” she added. “Together we accomplished the goal of one hundred victories.”

Boninsegna guided the Lady Warriors to the state semis in 2015.

Despite a rash of injuries, East finished the current season at 17-5 and is ranked No. 2 in the coaches and AP polls as sectional tournaments get under way.
