Westside football dominated Shady Spring in a scrimmage at H.B. Thomas Field in Shady Spring on Saturday morning.
The Renegades were dominant on both sides of the ball against the Tigers and scored five times, both on the ground and through the air.
Shady threatened once but never got into the endzone. The Tigers fumbled inside the Westside 10, and the Renegades recovered the ball.
The WHS second team and JVs were also effective at moving the ball.
Play began with each team running 10 plays. Later on, they moved the ball on downs.
There were no kickoffs, punts or extra point attempts.
Senior quarterback Justin Cogar was effective in both running and passing the ball.
“I was pleased,” said WHS coach Larry Cook.
“The offense executed pretty well, but we made a few mental mistakes,” he noted.
“This was a chance to play against someone else,” Cook said .”We’ll watch film this week and see what did wrong. We’ll try to improve our efficiency on offense and eliminate the mistakes.”
Westside will play in a grid-o-rama at Wyoming East on Aug. 22.
The Renegades will take on Greenbrier West, last year’s Class A runner-up, at 6 p.m., and Wyoming East will face Greenbrier East at 7:30 p.m.
