Fulbright Scholar to speak at high schools

Dr. Ruben Manami-Paco of Bolivia, Fulbright Scholar in Residence at St. Francis University, Loretto, PA, will visit area institutions February 19 – 22, 2017, as part of Bluefield State College’s Windows on the World Lecture Series, with funding support from the West Virginia Humanities Council, and the Outreach Lecture Fund of the Fulbright Program.

A member of the American Chemical Association and professor at Catholic University of Bolivia’s Environmental Engineering Department, Dr. Manami-Paco is a researcher at Universidad Mayor de San Andrés in La Paz, Bolivia. He has shared his findings about climate change and the economics of climate change at conferences and in publications worldwide.

On Monday, February 20, from 9:45 – 11 a.m., in Wyoming County, Dr. Manami-Paco will discuss the impact of climate change and Bolivia’s cultures and traditions with students of Wyoming East High School, in New Richmond and at noon, he will share these presentations with students of Westside High School in Clear Fork.

On Tuesday, February 21, Dr. Manami-Paco will discuss the impact of climate in BSC’s Dr. Young Kim’s chemistry class at 9:30am in Room 106 in the Basic Sciences building.

At 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 21, in the Physical Education Building, Room 202A, Dr. Manami-Paco will discuss Bolivian cultures and traditions with Education Instructor Stephanie Musick’s students of diversity in education.

Dr. Ruben Manami-Paco’s visit is funded by the Fulbright Outreach Lecture Fund, an activity of the US Department of State managed by the Council of International Exchange of Scholars, a subsidiary of the New York-based Institute for International Education. The West Virginia Humanities Council, a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, has also provided financial assistance for this activity. Pete Sternloff of Bluefield, West Virginia, will host Dr. Manami-Paco in his home.
