Changing tower locations is expected to improve communications for the Hanover Fire Department.,

Wyoming County Emergency Services Director Dean Meadows said use of a an aging tower at Horse Creek will be changed for a tower at Steeles hollow owned by Consol. The move is expected to be completed later this year.

The Horse Creek tower is solar-operated.

“Through the years, the solar panels have been deteriorating and some have been damaged in bad weather,” Meadows noted.

“It has worked pretty well, but there are some dead spots,” he noted.

“(The new site) is a better area and we’ll have better communications with the Hanover Fire Department,” he said.

Tracy Cline of the Hanover Fire Department spoke to the Wyoming County Commission at a recent meeting about the need for improved communications.

The commission agreed to provide the estimated $7,200 in funding needed. Meadows said $5,000 of that total will come from the 911 Center.

“We’re doing some preliminary studies now (to prepare for the change),” he indicated.

Meadows says communications for the other county fire departments are in good shape.

“We’re always working to make things better,” he remarked.
