Girls hoops: Westside, East advance

Westside and Wyoming East advanced to the Region 3, Section 1 championship game in girls basketball on Tuesday night.

The Class AA No. 1 Lady Renegades hammered Shady Spring, 91-48, to improve to 23-0.

WHS held a 48-16 lead at the half and cruised on from there.

Hope Lester paced Westside with 16 points. Tori Patrick added 13, and Cheyanna Lusk and Kristen Hash had 12 each. Megan Endicott scored 10.

Lyndsey Thompson and Tricia Gibson had 15 each for the Tigers.

East, the No. 2 seed in the section, beat Oak Hill for the third time this year, 57-50.

The game was tied at halftime. The Lady Warriors (13-10) outscored the Devils, 18-15, in the third quarter and 17-13 in the fourth.

Ally Hatfield had 22 points and 14 rebounds to spark East.

Chelsea Duncan had 15 points and 13 boards.

Brianne Pertee pulled down 14 rebounds, and Chiara Jewell had 13.

Westside and East meet in the sectional final on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Liberty.
